About Us

My name is Mario Lopez. I am not only a native Garden Citian, but proudly lay claim to the fact that I have never lived anywhere else. I was born, raised and educated in Garden City and am now employed here at my agency.

While I am very proud of this distinction, staying in Garden City was not my original intent. As a youngster, like countless others in small communities, I looked forward to the day when I would leave my hometown for the beckoning big wide world.

Due to family issues, I stayed. It is often said that everything happens for a reason and I believe this is true.  Because I stayed, I witnessed my hometown change to the bustling community it is today.

During this time I was fortunate to marry Ginger. She was also born and raised in Garden City. As in my case, it was her great grandparents and grandparents who first came to Garden City in search of opportunity and a better way of life. She would tell you that she has never wanted to live anywhere else, and we settled into life and business as usual.

I like to say that between my growing up and my hometown growing up–we were able to meet in the middle.

While most of my professional career has been in retail, finance and now the insurance industry, I have also done a stint in the beef packing industry. I have been a truck driver and like my grandparents and great grandparents, I have even worked in the fields surrounding our area. Each of these experiences allows me to better understand and appreciate the wide variety of people comprising our community.

Insurance in Kansas

I feel that I have found my niche in providing information, service and in some cases personal advice to many of the new and varied members of our community. It is very rewarding and revitalizing to see the American dream appreciated by the various members of our community. It also makes me proud of my hometown, that we are the gateway of that great dream for so many.

I thoroughly enjoy the mixture of cultures, languages, foods, sights and sounds which comprise my hometown. I also appreciate that while we are so diverse, we do not allow our differences to keep us from coming together for the a common cause. As challenges arise–such as the loss of our second largest employer and the subsequent adjustments we all had to make–we have always pulled together as one.

In the last few years I have become more involved in community service. Through entities such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Vision organization, the Finney County Economic Development Corporation, the Holcomb, Garden City and Finney County Planning Commission and groups involved with our Community College and our city government, I am trying to do my part to ensure my hometown’s continuing success.

I should explain that I also have selfish reasons for my community service. I am very proud that  my grandchildren are sixth generation Garden Citians. As Garden City continues to prosper, I hope that opportunities will grow with their dreams so that Garden City will remain their home, too.

While many smaller communities in our state continue to decline, with more migration toward population centers becoming the norm and the subsequent depletion of youth and talent, I am working to help make Garden City a regional center and immune to this trend.  As a true Kansan, I believe “There’s no place like home!”
